Moonlight (long version)

Tinderboxers all,

This is the long version of that OneSecondFilm we made last week.

Does it take too long to load? Should I upload a smaller version?

Big or small, I hope you like it!

new drawing

Its been ages since I've posted anything here! Here's one of the many drawings I've started and then put aside unfinished lately. Hopefully I'll get new work going soon...

Arcade Fire video

Have a look at Arcade Fire's new interactive music video. I'm not sure if I really love it, but its an interesting technique :)

for elida

I am posting this lovely animated drawing for us all really :D

Its by the argentinean illustrator die dié
oh my goodness flickr has me entranced today !!

One Second Film: Moonlight

Hello!

I am still quite bad at keeping up with Tinderbox, but here you are: the latest crop of our weekly animation meet. I think it doesn't really work, there is too much movement involved, three different actions narrated in one second. I think I have to show just one.
So, I think you will see a second version soon.
In the meantime, howwwwwwwl!

By the way, Damo, fantastic austronaut cartoon. Great indeed.
My internet connection is too weak to see the film you posted, but I will try!

Back to Earth by Andrew Rae

Andrew Rae has illustrated a lovely simple wordless comic strip about an astronaut who struggles with adjusting back to normal life on earth after having flown to the moon. The simple black & white line drawings and his choice of framing & composition for each scene are perfect, click here to see it all.

Buildings & Vampires

This short animation directed by Sebastian Baptista & Nico Casavecchia illustrates the story Max makes up for his mam at the start of 'Where the Wild Things Are'. The combination of animation on top of live action stick puppets is nicely done and integrated pretty seamlessly.

Threadless

Hi there fellow Tinderboxers.
I wonder if you have all heard of Threadless? They're a very well-known tshirt company that receives illustrations from the general public. If your illustration/design is selected, it goes up for voting in their public forum. After 7 days, if you have enough votes from the forum, they print your tshirt and give you lots of delicious cash-money!

Can you help me get my design printed by going to Threadless and scoring it? Pretty please? You have to create an account, but its quick and painless! I often go to threadless just to look at all the fabulous designs that are submitted.
Anyhoo, my design is a silly tee/onesy for kids that somehow got selected for consideration. WOOHOO!

Also, all you talented tinderboxers should give it a go.
Wish me luck and thanks for voting :)

Pixar: Day and Night

Pixar is famous for their award winning animated feature films. They also produce little show-piece animations to accompany new releases in cinemas. This one, Day and Night is shown before Toy Story 3. If you get a chance to see it on the big screen, it's captivating!

New custom artwork in my studio

New work: Luisa & Peter.
Paper sculpture in a wood box with glass.

New custom artwork from my studio.

This commissioned work is a gift from my wonderful friend Mercedes for her cousins Luisa and Peter, who celebrate their silver jubilee.

Mercedes asked me to include the Romanesque chapel in which they were married and evoked the beautiful garden, where it is located.

Luisa and Peter accompanied by their sons and friendly dogs. I hope you enjoy it!.

A big hug!!

new work in progress

whoops !!
I meant this post to go on my own blog but it went here ,and well .....it seems a shame to not let it stay :D
(not too much to report) , but I am keeping going with some new drawings , its a good time of year to see a lot of people you wouldnt normally see.
Summer is always busy , I prefer the quieter times and have to remember that I am not an Island (challenging)
B.T.W tinderboxers , the idea for a collective response to song lyrics through drawing is still going to happen .....I am musing it along and will put up a call late aug early sept.
If anyone has any suggestions or whatnot please post them here on the comments :D
stay happy

Melbourne Poster Competition

2010 Brief

"I haven’t failed; I’ve had 10,000 ideas that didn’t work
– Benjamin Franklin
We think Mr. Franklin had a nice way of looking at things. So the 2010 competition theme is ‘A Glass Half Full’.
For those who don’t know, this saying refers to optimism. Some people see situations with optimism (Franklin – glass half full), and some see situations with pessimism (glass half empty).
We would like you to design a positive poster in response to this theme. Judges will be looking for original concepts, lateral thinking and inspired designs. The poster will be up in Melbourne streets, so keep in mind it should also standout against the city landscape."

Prizes
– 1st

Adobe CS5, Wacom Intuos 4 Tablet, IdN Feature Article & Subscription, Spook Mag Subscription, Pantone Colour Bridge, KeepCup

Prizes – 2nd/3rd Place

ZINE 4/circus

Hello all,

I thought you would like to see the cover of the ZINE 4/circus.
The beautiful original artwork is by Claire Gallagher and I just messed with the text.
Hmmm. Summer Edition went well.
I sold a few of my own Slow fanzines, along with the issues from Tinderbox Zine2 /In These Shoes, Zine 3/Picture Show (thank you Michelle!) and the Zine 4 (Circus).
Thank you all for participating and visiting at Summer Edition!
And.. I have learnt that next time I do need more time to do a good job of it so, no more mad, crazy deadlines coming from this corner. Just mildly crazy I hope...

Zine4

Hi all,

Sorry for the late late notice, but
the other day talking to Damo and Denise,
we thought it'd be a good idea to publish our zine nr. 4
for the Summer Edition artbook event.

The zine format: A5 in colour

Damo had the good idea of perhaps using artwork from the CIRCUS exhibition.
So I will give it a CIRCUS cover, but anything goes.
Please send 300dpi files (pdf, jpeg, tiff) to elida.maiques[at]gmail.com no later than next Wednesday June 21.
Really sorry for the stoopid deadline। I promise to be better next time.

I feel at home when the unknown surrounds me

guys, look if I dont blow my own little silver trumpet, then who, tell me who will (huh ?)
happy to report a result
This is a drawing I made for a submission call to carpaccio magazine based in Spain. The line is from a Bjork song (wanderlust) and the video is wonderful .
The theme is inspired by this line from miss Bjorks song, hence the issue will be various artists responses to same.
I see our esteemed collective member miss D. Nestors beautiful work was chosen for last months call, she is obvs much more secure than me and didnt need to tell the world :)
Anyways guys , the call for submissions is every month and it is a most imaginative publication , blog etc.
So take a look and see if it interests you .
Also , I want to propose a tinderbox drawing exhibition to be made online , ie.on our blog SOON SOON .
Simple , something inspiring , hopeful and that would bring us all together collectively.
We could put it up on a seperate flickr page or something ?
Tinderbox Top Twenty or the tinderbox heart strings collective or we are collectively moved
I know , everyone send in a line of a song that really moves them(+ a link so others can see\hear it on youtube etc)
then we can all respond to one that appeals most to us...what you think??
I hope that you are all having a good summer.(loving the new header claire of mr d. martins beautifully cut letters )
jane xx

Minjae Lee

The way he uses patterns & shapes combined with figures reminds me of Klimt a bit. See more here.
