Pink Orchids
A painting I made for my friend as a wedding present. It was a photograph she had taken when we were in Singapore that she loved so i made it into a painting for her new place.

What do you do to beat creative block?
Alex of ISO50 asked some of today’s most exciting artists and creators what they do when the ideas aren’t flowing. He left the question fairly open ended and asked, What do you do to inspire your creativity when you find yourself in a rut? As expected, he was presented with an array of strategies, ranging from listening to Boards of Canada in a forest alone, to cooking up a storm (recipe provided) and waiting for the mind to clear: Overcoming Creative Block

new work
I am posting this piece here although its already been on my own blog .
It felt really good because altho it was a commission , I was able to bring it along as my own work is developing , the piece didnt feel untrue as it is virtually the same as what I am preoccupied with .
I was lucky , because the person who wanted me to make this drawing just trusted me and it was a joy to do (and it has all the symbols within it that were important to her)
I love this music from the original alt \folk genre. it is from the pretty wacky but ultimately image overload fest that is the 1973 ..... the wicker man film
I hope you enjoy it and that you are all getting loads of amazing work together for the show !!!

Hello All, I'm looking for votes for "A Load of Rubbish"!
Hi all, as some of you already know, I have written a childrens book called "A Load of Rubbish"and without a clue what to do with it, I loaded it onto a site called Authonomy.com run by the publishers Harper Collins. It is a site to spot new unpublished talent. Anyway the book flew up the charts and is now no.7 out of over 6000 books. The top 5 at the end of each month are put forward for consideration to editors in Harper Collins UK and US. It's not a definite towards publication but it's a good step in the right direction.
I have uploaded the synopsis and voting instructions onto my blog in an effort to entice votes. Please have a read and if you have time pass on a vote.
The sketches above are of some of the characters in my story.

Me and my Rothar Competition
Rothar in collaboration with CandyCollective and LeCool is calling all artists, photographers, graphic designers and the like to join their “Me and my Rothar” competition.
Based in Phibsborough, Rothar accepts bicycles from the public for recycling and refurbishment. This saves on the waste created from dumping bikes, and provides cheap, healthy and eco-friendly transport for those who use the bikes once they’re roadworthy again. Rothar also gives training opportunities to young people and encourages a reuse mentality. Rothar is designed to promote social inclusion in all communities.
To celebrate bicycles, environment, local artists and community, we are looking for funky, colourful, inspirational and beautiful art. Anything with a bicycle theme and a small paragraph about it is welcome. The rest is up to you, we trust your creativity and inspiration!
The three final images will be selected by a panel from Rothar, CandyCollective and LeCool magazine. The images will be printed on postcards and distributed in the cafes around the city from April, right when the bicycle season starts! The last entries should be in before March 19th . Please send your image to info@rothar.ie.
So if you’re a creative bicycle freak, have a special feeling about your rusty and trusty two-wheeler or simply an inspired artist, please join the competition and get your name and work printed out there!Jon Klassen Illustrations
Hi All,
I'm sure you already know this illustrator but I just found his work today while searching for the designer of the BBC winter Olympics advert.
His name is Jon Klassen and here's his site.

Art in the Contempory World
A forum hosted by Art and the Contemporary World and Gradcam.
NCAD, Monday 15th Feb., 2010
"What is the public role of the critic? What are the expectations and responsibilities of criticism today? And is it possible to conceive of a coherent public to which critical practices would in fact be responsible? This forum will address these questions and assess the extent to which contemporary criticism, in discipline-specific or more general contexts, in written or broadcast forms, assumes and performs a public role."

Exhibition in Hogans Valentines Weekend-calling all Tinderboxers
I think its a great opportunity to showcase some work in a good location, it's a recurring event we could exhibit at again and the people who run it seem very decent & good contacts to have. Also its an excuse for pints in Hogan's..
I'll be meeting with them either tomorrow or the next day to get more details but let me know if you are interested and what size/how many pieces you would like to put up. (Anything from past exhibitions etc...i know most people are working!) Hanging would probably be Saturday morning/afternoon the 13th feb. I'm on 087 2321411 if anyone wants to contact me directly

Kells Comedy Festival
Anyway last year was all about Vikings, so this year I chose the book of Kells as my inspiration. Who knew there were so many characters inside it. Above are my favourites but there are loads more, lots of dragons for some reason although I have heard Kells is full of them! The full poster is on my blog helddesign.blogspot.com

Introducing Dan (and Canabrism)...
Just thought I should introduce myself... I'm a (part time) musician who also does some multimedia stuff... although I haven't been doing a whole lot of public performance lately, which is partly why I want to get involved with the tinderbox community.
Here's a video I made in 2005, created mostly by moving around a few photos I took in London...
I have a music technology blog, and if any of you would like to collaborate on a music-related project, then let me know!
Also, this is the month of the RPM Challenge to create an album in 28 days - a great musical exercise for anyone who needs a bit of extra motivation...
My Love For You...
One of the best images I found there, but I'm sure it won't appeal to everyone, was this painting, by Caleb Brown (I think there's a Dali reference in the composition, but I can't be sure):
