Silly and Funny

Deadly Tunes!

My buddy John has an excellent radio show on Near 90.3fm every Tuesday at 10pm. He plays all sorts of stuff; jazz, blues, hip-hop, 60s garage, soul, reggae, electronica, classical etc!

It's (non-profit) community radio so it can be hard to pick up if you're not on the northside, but you can listen (and watch!) here. Scroll down and turn on the video feed.

This week he'll be playing amongst other things: three live tracks by the Velvet Underground, some Ornette Coleman, Koko Taylor, Third Eye Foundation, Taylor Deupree & Chris Wilits and The Jazz singer himself... Neil Diamond.

So if you're looking to liven up your Tuesday evening, give it a go. Sign up to the blog and Facebook page if you feel so inclined.

Tinderbox Supports Punho Forte

Hey folks, this is the charity we're working with for the mask party this Friday.

Your money goes directly to a great cause helping disadvantaged kids, spread the word and don't be shy about offering any extra donations or support.

Punho Forte
It is the aim of Punho Forte to provide basic educational and health improvements for the children of Itacaré while working with local government to improve the infrastructure of the city. It is also a priority of the organization to provide a safe and supportive environment for recreational activities for children in order to enable their emotional development. We encourage the participation of all children and teenagers in the running and organization of the project in order to foster a sense of personal development and responsibility.

MASK PARTY THIS FRIDAY

Hellooooo
Don't forget that the mask party is this Friday in Toners of Baggot street, Dublin! YEAY!
We're meeting there this evening (Monday) 6.30 to finalise a few things, so if anybody wants to help out on the night, join us there. Otherwise see y'all on Friday.
It's in support of our exhibition with a donation going to Punho Forte, so if you feel like contributing more than €5, it would be greatly appreciated.
Tell friends and friends of friends to come along and support!

This guy loves his moleskins

Wil Freeborn also known as Ghost School

I always judge a book by its cover

This web site features artists, illustrators and designers like Gary Taxali also a love of fonts but its all dedicated to the book cover. I have a bad habit of buying copies of the same book purely for the cover but also for the love of the book. They also have a blog which has various interviews and lovely pictures

Hey folks, long time reader, first time poster.

They're showing the silent classic Nosferatu tomorrow night in the beatiful Dartmouth Square in Ranelagh with a live band (3epkano) as part of the Ranelagh Arts Festival.

It starts at 8pm, and there's no way to reserve tickets, so I'd advise coming early. The Square is surrounded on all sides by huge trees, and on three sides by Georgian houses.

ELECTRIC PICTURE PALACE
Culture Night

Date/Time: Friday, 25 September, 8pm
(Please note: This event is incorrectly listed in the programme as 11pm)

Venue: Dartmouth Square
Tickets: Free

NB. In case of adverse weather conditions, it is advisable to bring "sitting" material.

NOSFERATU - A SYMPHONY OF HORRORS
Directed by F.W. Murnau; Year of Production - 1921 (Germany); Duration - 93mins; Silent with English intertitles and live music by 3epkano*

An iconic film of the German expressionist cinema, and one of the most famous of all silent movies, F. W. Murnau's Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror continues to haunt - and, indeed, terrify - modern audiences with the unshakable power of its images. By teasing a host of occult atmospherics out of dilapidated set pieces and innocuous real-world locations alike, Murnau captured on celluloid the deeply rooted elements of a waking nightmare, and launched the signature "Murnau-style" that would change cinema history forever.

* 3epkano are a Dublin based, seven-piece collective dedicated to producing original soundtracks for silent and avant-garde cinema. Founded in early 2004, they are:

Richard McCullough: keyboards/organ
James Mackin: drums/percussion
Matthew Nolan: electric guitar
Laurence Mackin: bass guitar
Cameron Doyle: electric guitar
Lioba Petrie: cello
Karen Dervan: viola

Print Workshop

Just a little sample of some of the prints from the workshop we did with Liz Nilson, click on the image to get a better view of fabric. The image came out very fine so it's almost looks embroidered which I was very happy with. Looking forward to making more screens now I know the know.

Graffiti artists or mural painters wanted

Anybody know any good graffiti artists or mural painters?

This is not a shop (the gallery space that we are using for the exhibition) have offered us the use of their shutter to promote the exhibition. The Luas stops right outside the door so it’s potentially a brilliant opportunity to raise awareness of our show and our network.

Any volunteers?

David Godbold

Edel and I are just back from a two week break, driving around the country. We saw some great exhibitions, one of my favourites being David Godbold's in Kilkenny Castle. If you get a chance, you really should take a look. I believe he also has a lot of work on display in the Kerlin Gallery in Dublin. You can view some samples of his work on their site.

Visa pour l'image

@Walter Astrada - Agence France-Presse

VISA pour l'IMAGE is a unique festival about Photojournalism. You're not only given the chance to look at the best contemporary photographers' work but also given the chance to face the world as it is today with Journalists/Photgraphers/Artist that would risk their lifes to testify about conflicts throughout the planet.

On Wallpaper.com you have a slideshow of 45 pictures that gives you a great sample of the diversity of all the exhibitions. I encourage you to take 5 min to look at it.
