New collage: Slither
Collage. Fabriano paper, mixed media, 36x26 cm.
Living is to slither by, you repeated,
catching our existence sideways
or see it from afar, high above,
with the perplexity of the beholder.
Those who knew you say
you lived this way, there was nothing
or anyone who might deviate
even one inch of the line
that yougave it your path.
That ambushed path led to
a house lost in the wilderness.
On that stony and eroded
under the blazing light of summer,
drawing a precise shade
the final shock of your loss.
In the sanctuary you set
a dangerous view of the world.
You pleaded with the gods often
not to punished us with misfortune
(Capable in its zeal to destroy us)
without first teaching what is important:
the fragile transparency of life.

Aurel Schmidt
Hey, I trust everyone's doing well. I was looking through some of the older posts given to drawing, and I was reminded of this woman-- Aurel Schimdt. I don't know too much about her, except that she seems funny and skilled and a little bad ass. There's better details of her work here. For sure go that link because you can't really tell how amazing these drawings are without seeing the close up details.

Willy Ronis
An exhibition has opened this week in Paris to celebrate Willy Ronis' legendary work. Visitors to the Monnaie de Paris on the Left Bank of the Seine will be able to discover some of the late photographer's most famous works alongside of some more secretive snapshots of his quest to define humanism's aestheticism.
This beautiful poster for the exhibition is presenting one of his most famous picture, Provençal Nude, 1949, a picture of his wife.
A certain idea of Beauty.
Willy Ronis died at age 99, on September 12, 2009.

Animating The Workforce
Although at a bit of a tangent to other Tinderbox content, I reckon some of you may find this interesting, particularly if you (like me) have a regular day-job to help fund your art...
This is an animated interpretation of a Dan Pink talk about how creative people cannot be effectively incentivised by money, and questions the usefulness of corporate structures that rely purely on financial benchmarks. It's an interesting talk in itself, but if you're an animator, be warned that drawing this quickly can put an enormous strain on your wrist...

Bree Dentice
Check out Bree Dentice's work here . She's pretty much in a league of her own with these pencil drawings, I can't think of anyone who handles a pencil better. I rarely use this word, but they're 'awesome', in the real sense of the word :)
Greetings! / Sampler

bear suited... :(
Just want to put this out there. I was unloading all my work outside the bernard shaw today and this piece was stolen sometime during the 2 minutes it was sitting outside. If anyone happens to see this anywhere can you please let me know? Its unlikely, but worth a try! Not the end of the world but still, I feel there's a little gap in my show. Just 'bear' it in mind ;)
Thanks guys!

Six Versions of Blood Meridian
I haven't read it yet, but Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian has been deemed by many as one of the greatest American novels of the twentieth century. Some artists have now started a project where they produce a picture based on each and every page of the novel: http://www.shawncheng.com/bloodmeridian/
Here's one image by Zak Smith, the same artist who drew every page of Thomas Pynchon's 700+ page headtrip WW2 novel, Gravity's Rainbow (all images here: http://www.themodernword.com/pynchon/zak_smith/page%20index.htm)
[EDIT: actually, I'm having trouble uploading the images, but take a look!]
