Upstart

"UpStart is a non-profit arts collective which aims to put creativity at the centre of public consciousness during the Irish General Election Campaign in 2011. We plan to do this by reinterpreting the spaces commonly used for displaying election campaign posters in Dublin City and are calling on all artists to submit work for this exhibition."

I'm very interested to see how it works. Its easy to be sceptical about these open calls for submission. There's often a feeling that you're giving your work away to advertisers for free. This however, seems quite genuine. There is so much visual polution during elections - badly designed posters with stomach-churning head-shots and tacky slogans - This could be an opportunity to balance it out, at least in the visual environment.

They dont specify content either.
Go for it tinderboxers, have your say or just get your work out there.

Claire, remember that poster I did when I was working in Longford and I gave ye a copy of it. I loved that poster, that big grinning head on him. Brilliant!
I'm pretty sure he won too.
