ZINE COSTS

Hi Tinderboxers

1.Elida and myself had a meeting yesterday about the quotes we got from printers. 500euro seems to be the benchmark for a 32 page, double sided colour printed booklet for 100 copies, thats 5 euro a book. Paper stock, as we are printing digitally seems to be a stumbling block but we have sourced printers that can give us something that is not on bloody god awful glossy stock.  So each page could work out quite costly for a person, 500 divided by 32 is 15.65. The number of pages maybe come in under that but realistically it will be around that amount. This is just printing cost. We wanted you guys to be aware of want costs we are encountering.

2. So costs of course led to.....
Funding. We looked at a web site called Fund-it, which has a very interesting premise, you set a taggert amount and pitch your idea for your art project in a video on line to get funds. It sounds perfect but when I went through the red tape it just sounded a bit of a quagmire. For one thing they asked for credit card details and will debit said credit card of the funds for 22 days, IF, you reach your target,  at which point they refund you. So forget that, we can have our own Fund It type project. The premise of a pitch is a good one, so pitch it too your friends, family and patrons. A Tinderbox event or mini events will be needed. Maybe Mini events can help in your own funding our help the group. Myself and Elida made a list yesterday of things, within reason and the law you can do. Elida will post on this. Please!!! throw out ideas for funding. Ok thats enough for now.

Hi Emma! Sorry I've been silent for a while. My sister-in-law died recently and it's been difficult. I'm getting back in gear now though and still planning to do a stall at the Crafty Market at Shebeen Chic next Saturday the 25th (12-5). Elida's bringing me old zines that I'll display there and any sales of those could go towards funding the new zine. I also have 12 euro available from the last Crafty Market that will go towards it. How's everybody doing with the work? I actually was able to take a couple of photos during a walk into town this last week with the theme of Gods and Monsters in mind and I have some older photos that could fit in also but I'm not over confident about them...

Hi Emma - will try to think of someway of raising moneys...could approach a pub that holds a regular quiz and ask to hold the quiz to fund the zine? could make it an art themed quiz..offer some art as prizes..or somthing..not much time for fund raising if the deadline is still 30th of june though..is it still 30th of June?

Also Esther sorry for your loss!

Thanks Noirin. Just got an email today from the Crafty Market. They've cancelled for today and for the rest of the Summer, the stallholders haven't been doing well. I'm going to try Blackrock market. I think the pub quiz idea is very good but there's a lot of organization involved in it. I'd be happy to help and to contribute one of my works as a prize

Hi Girls,

very sorry to hear about your sister in law Esther

I hope both of you will but something in, the dead line is pretty close and may be extended some. people may have to pull together and do little funding projects to get this done, elida and myself will do our best but we need help regards money. also the sooner also we have the work the sooner me and elida can get editing, so the work may just have to come before all the money is in, its looking like a self finance project by the looks of things

Hi Emma! I will do my best to get stuff in by the 30th..I'll also try to think of how to get some money's in..would it be possible to pre-sell some of the books to pay towards the printing?...

Oh esther just saw your reply above.. ya I guess the quiz thing would take too long to organise now.. but maybe an idea for another time when we need some funding! or for raising money for anything really..

That's a shame about the market being cancelled..hope the blackrock one works out..
