"The experiences are numerous. Why and how to show the book? How to represent a book in a book? How to exhibit? Lots of research and questioning that led up to these projects corpus and exhibition.
The book, containing  & content, shouldn’t be exposed as a “dead object”, in a glass box. This object is alive! Turn the pages, observe the binding details, study the graphic design… All these are required to apprehend the object but also its content and the context of the whole process.
Even in a digital and virtual context, the idea of representing and exhibiting a book still makes sense: these initiatives are the proof.
Dispossessed by multimedia from its domination in the transfer and protection of information and knowledge, and in its status of a space for artistic expression, we specially intend to demonstrate our commitment to the affirmation of the autonomy of a book which we always believed existed.
The aim of Open Books is to collect and highlight some initiatives which open our minds and our reflection. We ask ourselves questions, and here are some answers."

New Project with a view to an exhibition...Nostalgia

Ok, so I have been trying to think of a new project to do lately as I haven't done anything Tinderbox related in ages. I've been clearing out my room the last couple of days and have come across some weird and wonderful things..The most interesting thing was how many old films and disposable cameras I came across that I never developed...About 23! I know this is going to be ridiculously expensive so I might just pick a few to develop and whatever photos spark and idea I'll go with that. (Yes, i know this is scary..some are from 10 years ago..what will I find!?!) So who is up for a project based on finding some old films and processing them or a nostalgic search of your room?

'Disinherited'... submission for Upstart

This illustration arose out of a series of doodles I've done recently against a backdrop of political, economic and social gloom. I didn't consciously set out to say anything with this, but I think the fact that the boys are all arm-less (for some reason arms just seemed wrong!) in a way expresses the sense of powerlessness people have in this country, especially in areas that didn't do so well during the so-called boom times. Anyhow, it's my submission for the Upstart initiative. I'm curious to see how it works out - perhaps a small smidgen of truth alongside tired out rhetoric.

well its open now and thank you to my family and friends who were able to make it , you are the best :)
It was lovely to meet the other artists and I can imagine us working together one day.
My photographs came out very dark :( and that is why I have not posted any of yvonne,susan and rachels work until I get some better ones (which I will soon soon)
The gallery is run to a very professional standard by sean ,rob and sarah (thanks guys)and it was a real pleasure to work with them.

The show is on until febuary 4th and you can find out all the opening times etc here.

Hey everyone, here's my first submission of banners for Tinderbox. I've been messing about with making a typeface & layering textures in Photoshop to give a kind of vintage screenprint effect. I've done 2 options, a colourful one & a more muted one cos I thought the colour one might look a bit kiddy?

I'll probably have a go at another banner in a different style, how's everyone else getting on?!

PS Claire, I tried a darker shading but it was too imposing.
Also, about publishing it in the press, my idea was to send out postcards addressed to the editors of different papers, but if you can recommend another approach, I am all ears!

PS Yellowhammer, those cartoon cave men are by the fantastic Juan Giner, and very difficult to translate, but I will try.

Twiggy Christmas card

Well, here's the Christmas greeting version of my idea this morning, I'll definitely do cards out of this for next year! I actually left the h in 'Christmas' out at first, put the photo into the computer, realized my mistake, had to get off my comfortable slippers again and put on the wellies, off to the garden again to fix the spelling mistake...
